In light of the precarious COVID-19 situation in Europe and around the world, the Cyprus Sommelier Association and the Organizing Committee of BSEA, Cyprus 2020 have made the difficult decision to officially postpone the Best Sommelier of Europe & Africa competition, originally scheduled for November 2020 in Limassol, Cyprus, to
March November 2021.
In the words of Cyprus President Georgios Kassianos, the decision shows where the priorities of ASI lie: the health and safety of the candidates, presidents, journalists and guests. “We certainly hope that by that time there will be minimum restrictions, as we aim for all 41 countries to be present, as well as many of our Americas, Asia, Oceania Presidents.”
The new event has been scheduled for
14 – 18 November 2021 in Cyprus. Details of the re-scheduling and of the competition will be sent to ASI member presidents in December 2020.
Note: the official deadline for registration of competitors is also postponed to June 10, but candidates who have already been selected by their national association are encouraged to register now. Given the current circumstances, this will let us take advantage of the ‘extra time’ at home and get a jump on reviewing and processing applications.
